Real-life saints and sinners – and those who are a little of both – love the NFL. That is no surprise really, since football is a sport filled with action, stuffed with excitement, and perhaps is appealing in a violent kind of way.
It is for some a way of letting some of their own frustrations loose, to feel like they themselves were in the game, running, tackling, and making magnificent touchdowns. Then again, most of the millions of fans are just in it to support their local and favorite teams.
Speaking of favorites, the New Orleans Saints have been rising to the top of the pile as of late. They have long been ridiculed for their large proportion of losses, but the 2009 season turned things around. The Saints emerged as NFC champions, beating the Minnesota Vikings 31-28, and clinching themselves a slot in the prestigious Super Bowl. This is the first appearance by the Saints in the SuperBowl, so their fans are about as high as they can ever be.
The Saints and other NFL teams have many fans, which is why NFL merchandise is always hot stuff. Licensed apparel is a definite favorite, since nothing shows your support like putting on the clothing worn by your favorite football warriors. Tee shirts, jerseys, and hoodies make up the bulk of apparel sales, so they are available in lots of sizes. Whether it is men’s sizes, women’s sizes, for the youth and kids, there’s a size available for you.
Different styles are also available. Would you prefer a V neck or a round neck? Long sleeve, quarter sleeves, or short-sleeved tshirts? How about throwback jerseys mimicking the styles of earlier periods in football history? Whatever you want, you can find it. The best part about these tees, jerseys, and hoodies is that they are also printed with the names and numbers of your favorite players. How about a Reggie Bush shirt? A Marques Colston jacket? Or a Drew Brees jersey?
Many of these items also flagrantly display the Saints’ team name and favored logo, the golden fleur-de-lis. The fleur-de-lis is a symbol of nobility, brought by the French to New Orleans way back when, and it has remained a standard for the city. Today, this golden symbol represents the New Orleans Saints, and 2010 may be the year when this team will shine brighter than it ever has.
On the topic of shining bright, we have to mention the efforts of the team, particularly after Hurricane Katrina tore up much of the city like so much newspaper. The team has long been an underdog, and yet they continued to play as well as they ever could, a fact that has endeared them to their fans for over forty years. The team suffered major problems after Katrina broke the city, yet they played the rest of that season. Individual members have made humanitarian contributions to their city; of particular note is Drew Brees’ donations and appearances for the benefit of the reconstruction of academic and athletic facilities, parks and playgrounds, as well as child care facilities. He has even been nicknamed by his most ardent fans as “Breesus”, a moniker that needs no explanation. Part of the profits from the merchandise goes to various nonprofit humanitarian organizations too.
Perhaps the greatest light that shines from the Saints is a result of their current and recent performances. Strings of victories, better team plays, and a season studded with great moments – the New Orleans Saints are making history for themselves, and this season will surely be remembered for years to come. Be part of history in action and sport your New Orleans Saints apparel today!
